WHO WE ARE

The Utility Service Providers Association or USPA is an organisation comprised of service providers whose business involves any of the following:

  • Provisioning of Utility Services such as electricity, water or gas.
  • Prepaid Services
  • Meter Installations or Readings
  • Billing Services

USPA was founded in 2014 in response to the growing concerns by the public in lieu of prepaid electricity charges. USPA’s membership is open to all individuals and businesses involved in the respective industry who adhere to the rules of conduct set by our association. USPA is self regulating and seeks to advance the professional stature of its members and their practices for the benefit and protection of public interest.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Utility Service Providers Association (USPA) seeks:

  • To group all related service provider businesses and foster their professional interests.
  • To regulate its member practices for the benefit and protection of public interest.
  • To uphold standards of proficiency and code of ethics to its members across South Africa and abroad.
  • To provide a platform for the handling of complaints and constructive resolutions thereof.

HISTORY

Prompted by Eskom, in an attempt to provide electricity to wider sectors of the population, companies have been providing systems for prepaid Electricity since 1989. In 1990 Eskom elaborated on its requirement for prepaid electricity meters to what has become known as the NRS009 specification. Based on the NRS009, the South African Bureau of Standards produced a meter specification named the SANS1524

USPA OBJECTIVES

  • Affirm that the obligation of maintaining the public’s trust are inherent in the practice of our industry
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct amongst members
  • Uphold fair business practices with cognisance to socioeconomic factors, legal issues and consumer behaviour.
